XXIII International Union of Architects World Congress.
After Barcelona, Berlin, Beijing and Istanbul, the architects are meeting in Turin, Italy, from the 29th of June to the 3rd of July 2008 for the XXIII International Union of Architects World Congress (official website: ).
Following the 1948 edition, an Italian city is once more hosting the important international event which has chosen Transmitting Architecture as its theme: architecture which communicates and is communicated, in every way, and which permeates places with all the nuances of a profession involving the values related to quality of life and the environment.
Transmitting Architecture, communicating to increase the knowledge, awareness and demand for high-level architecture from the general public, who are called on to participate actively.
The International Union of Architects organises its World Congress every three years, and is a fundamental destination for architects and students of architecture, who participate in the debates on themes linked to the profession.
The UIA Congress provides an ideal meeting place for architects and architecture students from all over the world, and focuses on a pre-chosen theme. Debates, exhibitions, visits and festivals all form part of an event which promotes the exchange of cultural contacts between professionals and students.
The Congress always ends with the publication summarising the work done at the Congress.
Twenty-two Congresses have taken place since 1948.
Taking place over a period of 3/5 days, the Congress is followed by the General Assembly, during which the outgoing UIA bureau presents a budget of its mandate and the delegates of the Assembly elect the new positions of office and select the city which will host the next Congress.
A prize giving ceremony is held during the Congress to award the UIA Gold Medals and prizes to the winners of the student competitions.
Also taking place during the period of the Congress are numerous associated events in synergy with the host area, with the aim of increasing the cultural events and entertainment on offer.
